David Ashby

Bey Captain - Melbourne

I started dancing at the age of 4 in Christchurch under Anne Judson. Then at the age of 16 I had to make the decision, school or ballet? I left school and joined first year at the International ballet academy under the renowned Carl Myers and Sherylin Kennedy. I then finished my third year in Australia.
I joined the Queensland ballet before graduating and danced many ballets, my favourite being Carmen, choreographed by Francois Claus. Whilst dancing for QB, I was asked to dance for Louise Delure and explore new choreography for the international dance conference. I truly found a love for contemporary ballet through this time and later went on to dance for Louise's former Company, Lucid Dance Theatre. I have also performed with the Royal New Zealand Ballet and danced as a soloist for the Tasmanian Ballet's regional tour, dancing the peasant pas.
I am now at Bey Dance to teach ballet as I see it. Freedom, love and happiness! I aim to break down the borders between ballet and human, structure and body and want to share my knowledge of technique that can be used in every genre of dance.
